Behaviour Management And Inclusion Policy

Behaviour management and house rules
I aim to help children to behave well and will manage behaviour in a way that is appropriate for their age and stage of development, as well as taking into account their individual needs.
Children will be encouraged to develop good social, personal and emotional skills, in a safe and caring environment.
Good behaviour will be encouraged by good example and discussion, appropriate for their age and understanding. I encourage children to make choices and help them to see that their actions have consequences.
I do have some house rules which I introduce to the children when necessary and in a way that is appropriate for their age and understanding – such as, the need to share toys, take turns, or talk nicely to each other. These rules are occasionally reviewed with the children.
I will not use any form of physical punishment or any form of punishment with the intention of causing pain or discomfort, or any treatment which would be humiliating or hurtful.
If I am concerned about a child’s behaviour I will discuss this with the parents and work with them to support the child. If there is a significant incident, I will complete an incident record, ask parents to sign the record and discuss it with them. I may make observations and keep records of particular behaviour, if necessary. These would be shared and discussed with the parents. The only exception to this might be if I was concern about abuse (see Safeguarding Children policy).
I ask that parents let me know about any significant events that might affect their child’s behaviour, such as the birth of a sibling, family problems, bereavement, or other significant changes. If parents are concerned about their child’s behaviour they should discuss this with me.
I may refer parents to other organisations who might be able to help and I will work with other professionals or family members to support a child, if parents would like me to.

Inclusion policy
I aim to make sure that all children are actively included and that they, and their families, feel welcome.
I will ensure that each child is able to learn and develop. I will help them to reach their potential taking into account their background and abilities. A wide range of activities and resources are available to achieve this.
I work to ensure that each child’s individual needs are met, whilst being aware of the needs of all the children. Activities are adapted to suit the children in the setting at the time.
Children are encouraged to develop a sense of their own identity and culture. All the children learn about different cultures and are encouraged to develop a positive attitude towards people who are different from themselves.
I challenge discriminatory remarks, attitudes and behaviour, from adults and children with whom I have contact.
I will promote the values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs through my delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Input from parents is welcome. If children have any particular requirements I am happy to support their needs. I ask parents to tell me if there are any cultural traditions they would like me to observe. If specialist equipment or resources are needed, parents should discuss their requirements with me.
I will do all I can to ensure that paperwork and procedures are accessible to all, and where practical adapt them to suit particular needs. I will also try to review practises to make sure they do not indirectly discriminate. Suggestions from parents are welcome and any parent who feels they need support is encouraged to ask.
